Travel Notes on Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, also known as Coban Sewu, is one of the destinations that I wanted to visit. When I first went to Malang, I didn’t have the chance to visit it due to limited time. Now, I plan to go back to Malang and visit Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. Hopefully, this can be useful for friends who are planning to visit Tumpak Sewu Waterfall soon.
In the morning, light rain fell and we spent our journey sleeping to overcome fatigue after a 16-hour train journey. We decided to leave early in the morning after considering a few things.
It is said that the best time to descend to the bottom of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is in the morning before sunrise because the journey is quite long and tiring, especially during the rainy season.
Yesterday’s weather was not supportive at all. In addition to the rain, Mount Semeru, the roof of Java Island, was also experiencing an increase in activity since early December. Cold lava floods have occurred several times and Malang, especially Lumajang, was quite vulnerable at that time.
We arrived at the Tumpak Sewu parking area around 6:30 AM, with a car parking fee of Rp. 10,000,-. The entrance is located in a residential village, so we had to enter a narrower village road from the main road.
Around the parking area, there are toilet facilities and several stalls owned by locals, one of which is Pak Yanto’s stall who guided us to explore Tumpak Sewu waterfall. Pak Yanto also has an inn, so if you want to stay before visiting Tumpak Sewu waterfall, you can try that accommodation.
Before continuing, we had breakfast first at Pak Yanto’s stall, then cleaned ourselves and changed clothes. When traveling to Tumpak Sewu and descending to the bottom of the waterfall, it is recommended to bring spare clothes because it will definitely get wet.
Mount Bromo Ijen Crater Tour 3 Days 2 Nights
After finishing our exploration of the cave, we continued to the Tumpak Sewu waterfall area. When we arrived at the gate, we paid an entrance fee of Rp. 10,000 per person. The first spot we visited was the panoramic view, where we could see the waterfall from the top. And it was truly stunning!
After walking for about an hour through several obstacles, we finally arrived at the hidden paradise at around 8:30 am. The waterfall looked even more magnificent from below. Its beauty was more breathtaking and it seemed very wide.
The waterfall cascading from a height of around 80 meters forms a very wide curtain. Despite enjoying its beauty, there was also a sense of fear. Not because of any mystical things, but because we were worried that if it rained heavily, the water could become too strong and we wouldn’t be able to cross back over the bridge.
The Tumpak Sewu waterfall is truly beautiful. It’s worth the difficulty and exhaustion of the journey to get here after seeing the result. It was all worth it.
